I read this as a buddy read and had a great time discussing it; we were lucky to have the author join us as well!I love Katherine St。 John's writing style and how she completely transports you to these tropical destinations。 The Siren is told from the point of view of three separate and very different women。 They all have one common factor, a strong dislike of Hollywood legend Cole Powers。 Brought together to make a film on a Caribbean Island, the stakes are high, the drama is plenty, and it's filled with mystery! It's the perfect read for this summer! As usual, I did a mix of listening and reading, and the narrators were terrific! I liked that they had separate narrators for each of the three women, so the voices were distinct to each character。 Christine Lakin, who voiced Taylor's chapters, has quickly become one of my favorite narrators after listening to The Royal We series last summer!I can't wait to see where Katherine St。 John takes us next and what new characters we'll get to meet! She's become a must-read author for me!Who are some of your must-read authors?! 。。。more

I enjoyed Katherine St。 John’s debut, LION’S DEN so much as soon as I saw her latest release, THE SIREN I had to read it。 I dove in as soon as it arrived and had a hard time putting it down。 After two late nights and ignoring phone calls I finished it because while I had to know how it ended, I didn’t want to miss one delicious word。 Told from the points of view of the three main female characters—Stella, Felicity and Taylor—the story takes you into their pasts。 Interspersed are Instagram, blog I enjoyed Katherine St。 John’s debut, LION’S DEN so much as soon as I saw her latest release, THE SIREN I had to read it。 I dove in as soon as it arrived and had a hard time putting it down。 After two late nights and ignoring phone calls I finished it because while I had to know how it ended, I didn’t want to miss one delicious word。 Told from the points of view of the three main female characters—Stella, Felicity and Taylor—the story takes you into their pasts。 Interspersed are Instagram, blog and news item posts mainly about Stella。 St。 John creates characters that you find yourself involved with。 Each character is unique—there is no confusing one with another。 I hurt for Felicity when her past was revealed and then for Stella。 I disliked Madison from her first appearance and got to dislike her more and more as the story went on。 She had no redeemable qualities and I would have liked to have seen a worse ending for her。 The island setting is perfect for the story。 Not quite a “closed room” mystery but close enough when one character as well as the pending hurricane create their own closed room。 While the conflicts in the story are mainly character driven with changing loyalties both between them and the reader, the atmosphere created by the hurricane adds a whole other dimension。 The only part I didn’t care for, which is why this is a 4-1/2 rather than 5 heart review is I’m not a fan of first person present tense。 To me it reads like a non-English speaking grammar school student’s first attempt at an essay。 It just pulls me out of a story。 Fortunately this story only has a few chapters with that voice and I was able to get the gist of that character’s role by skimming。 。。。more

Oh this novel is deceptive。 Fortunately I read a great review by a trusted source and took a chance。 The title and the book cover suggest chick-lit, but this is suspense all the way。A former child star, previously married to Hollywood's hottest guy, is struggling to make ends meet when he asks her to join the cast of an independent film on an island。 Thus begins a reunion of sorts, one fraught with sex, money, deception, lies, drugs, really bad weather, and mostly implied violence。 The author ha Oh this novel is deceptive。 Fortunately I read a great review by a trusted source and took a chance。 The title and the book cover suggest chick-lit, but this is suspense all the way。A former child star, previously married to Hollywood's hottest guy, is struggling to make ends meet when he asks her to join the cast of an independent film on an island。 Thus begins a reunion of sorts, one fraught with sex, money, deception, lies, drugs, really bad weather, and mostly implied violence。 The author has worked in Hollywood in various roles and clearly brings that influence to her writing。 The clues emerge slowly and build to a crescendo when a hurricane descends upon the crew。 Every person is connected in some sly way to another。 This is very contemporary; one actress is Instagramming constantly and is hands-down the most irritating character。 There are Me Too moments, and a variety of ways that violence is expressed toward women。Amidst the dark stuff, there is budding romance and a beloved dog and lots of insights about filming。 Perhaps could have arrived at the conclusion a tad sooner, but overall this works very well。 Great page turner。 。。。more

I only recently read The Lion’s Den but absolutely loved it, so I was ecstatic to receive a copy of The Siren。 I listened to this via audiobook and it is absolutely fantastic, but I was glad I had this copy to follow along with。Cole Power is a megastar headed to the Caribbean Island of St。 Genesius to film the low-budget movie The Siren, and the leading lady is his ex-wife Stella Rivers (whom Cole brought on specifically for the role)。 She is a bit of a mess these days and needs this film to get I only recently read The Lion’s Den but absolutely loved it, so I was ecstatic to receive a copy of The Siren。 I listened to this via audiobook and it is absolutely fantastic, but I was glad I had this copy to follow along with。Cole Power is a megastar headed to the Caribbean Island of St。 Genesius to film the low-budget movie The Siren, and the leading lady is his ex-wife Stella Rivers (whom Cole brought on specifically for the role)。 She is a bit of a mess these days and needs this film to get her career back on track after several public breakdowns。 She has brought a mysterious new assistant, Felicity, to help with that, but it seems Felicity may have her own agenda。 Taylor is a fledgling producer who really needs this film to help rebuild some credibility after her last job didn’t end well。 These three women each clearly have a motive for being on this island, and there is a hurricane brewing offshore。 With chaos brewing, everything comes to light and this makes for one intense drama-filled novel。I really enjoyed this one, and loved the format of the novel itself。 It is told from the POV’s of Taylor, Stella, and Felicity, with breaks in between of news headlines reporting on what is going on re: filming of The Siren。 I loved the behind the scenes info about the movies just as much as I did the drama, which there was plenty of。 This also flashes into the past of a couple of the women, giving insight into their backstories and how it relates to present day。 As it all builds along with the hurricane, it makes for one great ending that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about。St。 John is now an auto-buy author for me after reading and loving both of her books。 Thank you to Grand Central Publishing for the free copy to review。 。。。more

3。5 stars。 The atmosphere of The Siren is everything I love in a mystery: a group of people somehow related to each other in an isolated setting。 In this case, it's a Caribbean island during hurricane season。 St。 John did a great job building this environment, and the first 30% sets up the narrative well。 Then there's a lag between like 40-80%。 The pacing in this middle section drags, and probably could have used some tightening of the narrative。 Nothing *really* happens, and then the end comes 3。5 stars。 The atmosphere of The Siren is everything I love in a mystery: a group of people somehow related to each other in an isolated setting。 In this case, it's a Caribbean island during hurricane season。 St。 John did a great job building this environment, and the first 30% sets up the narrative well。 Then there's a lag between like 40-80%。 The pacing in this middle section drags, and probably could have used some tightening of the narrative。 Nothing *really* happens, and then the end comes to a rush quickly。 That said, I enjoyed listening to the audiobook。 The main characters aren't that developed, but they are enjoyable enough as main characters。 This book is like the definition of beach read。 It would be great to read alongside a summery cocktail next to the ocean/a pool。 And I liked it enough that I will check out St。 John's first book! 。。。more

The book was great at some parts and just dragged out at others I felt。 At times I was just very bored and felt it didn’t need to be 400 plus pages this one。 The concept was good but at times I got a little jumbled because the characters kept jumping back and forth so much。

I feel like I listened to a completely different book than other people are talking about。 The characters were completely flat and not fleshed out in any way and I was incredibly bored。 The narration of the book played deeply into that with heavy 'oh naive little ol me' accents when narrating that kind of character。 It was so cloying I had to DNF。 I feel like the bones were here but not enough for me to keep going。 I feel like I listened to a completely different book than other people are talking about。 The characters were completely flat and not fleshed out in any way and I was incredibly bored。 The narration of the book played deeply into that with heavy 'oh naive little ol me' accents when narrating that kind of character。 It was so cloying I had to DNF。 I feel like the bones were here but not enough for me to keep going。 。。。more

This book was brilliant! So worthy of 5 stars。 The characters were so well developed and I could not stop reading it。 I was completely hooked within the first 50 pages。 It was the perfect summer thriller。 I cannot recommend it enough。 There are mentions of rape and substance abuse so if your not comfortable reading about that, this isn’t the book for you。 But so so so good。

I was so excited about this book, but I think I was expecting something different from what it actually was。 I need the thrill in my thrillers to come relatively early in the book and, up to where I read, there really isn't anything happening, let alone anything exciting。 If the blurb pulls you in and you don't mind slow burns, then this might still be for you, but I just like my thrillers more fast-paced。 I was so excited about this book, but I think I was expecting something different from what it actually was。 I need the thrill in my thrillers to come relatively early in the book and, up to where I read, there really isn't anything happening, let alone anything exciting。 If the blurb pulls you in and you don't mind slow burns, then this might still be for you, but I just like my thrillers more fast-paced。 。。。more

Stella, Felicity, and Taylor all have reason to be upset with the men in their past, and it was intriguing hearing from each of them as their stories unravel throughout filming The Siren, and as the filming becomes derailed。 I really appreciated that, while these characters began as archetypical, easy-to-understand people, they grew into more complex, interesting women as history and feelings burst through their professional, Hollywood veneers。 Even though I was able to see where the journey ended ahead of time, I still enjoyed the ride, and thought that the story was well-executed。 The Siren is a hot beach read full of drama, intrigue, and revenge, and is sure to please readers who enjoy well-spun tales of thrilling revenge。 Thank you Grand Central Publishing for the gifted copy of this book。 。。。more

ARC provided by the publisher for reviewIf you love a wild night time soap, a la Revenge, you gotta read The Siren。Hollywood A-lister Cole Power stars opposite his ex-wife Stella in The Siren, set to shoot in the Caribbean。 And it's directed by his son Jackson。 As the cast and crew gather, Stella isn't the only one who's hoping this film will mark her comeback。 She's brought her assistant Felicity along for the shoot。 Taylor, a producer on the film, is fresh off a scandal that got her fired。 The ARC provided by the publisher for reviewIf you love a wild night time soap, a la Revenge, you gotta read The Siren。Hollywood A-lister Cole Power stars opposite his ex-wife Stella in The Siren, set to shoot in the Caribbean。 And it's directed by his son Jackson。 As the cast and crew gather, Stella isn't the only one who's hoping this film will mark her comeback。 She's brought her assistant Felicity along for the shoot。 Taylor, a producer on the film, is fresh off a scandal that got her fired。 They all need this film to go well。 Katherine St。 John's second novel is the beachiest of beach reads filled with big egos, narcissism, infidelity, substance abuse, and the bad behavior you'd expect in a deliciously trashy night time soap。 The cast collision hits a little late for me, and I didn't fully buy one character's transformation, but this is still one you're gonna wanna have in your beach bag this summer。I also totally recommend St。 John's previous book, The Lion's Den CW: miscarriage; drug dependency, use and abuse; gun violence, sexual assault, murder 。。。more
